5 Finger Breathing

Trace your hand and breathe

Directions

Place one hand in front of you. With the other hand, trace your hand with your finger. As you go up a finger, breathe in slowly through your nose. As you go down the finger, let the air out through your mouth. Slowly repeat this as you trace your whole hand.

How It Helps

Tracing your hand while breathing helps synchronize your breath with a calming visual rhythm.

Studies show that this technique can reduce anxiety and promote relaxation by focusing attention and regulating breath.

Tip

If you start to feel dizzy or lightheaded, stop right away.
