How Comet Cadets works?
Comet Cadets → Play
Comet Cadets is based on the same research and best practices as other excellent social-emotional learning (SEL) programs in the universe.
But what sets Comet Cadets apart is that we encourage bottom-up, child-driven learning of SEL tools through the power of play!
Joining the Comet Cadets is about protecting our universe! Cadets embark on missions that train their real-life communication and emotion skills.

Play → Engagement
Comet Cadets training is designed with one top mission: engagement from every Cadet.
Engagement is crucial for effective long-term learning.
From role-playing as a Comet Cadet going on missions to exploring stories and music, Comet Cadets training engages Cadets to learn real-life skills through play and having fun.
Unless young people have fun with SEL skills, they’re not likely to use them in their real lives.
Engagement → Learning
Having fun as a Comet Cadet is about more than just playing — it’s about learning.
It’s important that learning is fun. Because when learning isn’t fun, it isn’t effective.
When people are engaged and having fun, they are more likely to have ownership and feel motivated to participate in the learning process — higher engagement results in higher achievement.
This is true for both young people and grown-ups. When grown-ups play along, young people learn a lot more and apply those skills.

Joining the Comet Cadets is for everyone, whether you’re age 5 or 95.
Based on Research
Comet Cadets is based on internationally recognized social-emotional learning fundamentals. Our lessons are developed in line with the research and frameworks provided by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), the Yale Child Study Center, and the Center for Nonviolent Communication. We are not affiliated these organizations, but deeply respect their research and guide ourselves by their same missions and principles. We work with a team of elementary school educators, psychologists, and parents to review our content to ensure that it's ready for Cadets in the classroom and at home.
